The multifunctional site is an innovative educational facility tailored to serve past, present and future Red Raiders in the metroplex.
Situated in one of the fastest-growing areas of the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex, Texas Tech University has officially opened its newest facility in Irving, marking a significant milestone in the university’s commitment to serve the educational needs of that community. The site is poised to become a beacon of educational excellence and innovation, strategically positioned to cater to the diverse learning requirements of students of all ages, stages and levels of learning. Whether seeking to complete a degree, pursue advanced professional programs or acquire cutting-edge skills in technology, Texas Tech DFW offers a comprehensive array of opportunities.
Texas Tech has always had a rich history in DFW, with more than 60,000 alumni and growing. Coupled with its many strong connections with community leadership, in government and the private sector, it made sense for the university to put down roots in the country’s fourth-largest metropolitan area. The new location, close to the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, is perfectly situated to serve a large part of the metro. Its 27,000 square feet of space is set up with multipurpose learning and event spaces to accommodate a wide variety of needs, from teaching classes to holding community-focused events and training.
“At Texas Tech, we have always focused on providing access and opportunity to students across this state and beyond,” said Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec. “Texas Tech DFW represents a milestone in our commitment to expanding access to higher education. By delivering flexible programs and personalized support, we will empower future Red Raiders to achieve their educational goals and advance their careers.”
Committed to providing quality education that meets the needs of both traditional and non-traditional students, Texas Tech aims to accomplish this by matching its diverse range of academic programs and offerings available at Texas Tech DFW to the equally diverse pool of prospective students in the area. The site is equipped to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in today’s dynamic job market. Graduate degree tracks are available through the site as hybrid programs. Undergraduate opportunities will be offered beginning in Fall 2024.
This summer, Texas Tech will open a degree completion program targeting individuals who have earned 80 or more college credits, with the goal of enabling them to finish their degree for as little as $10,000. Students who possess 70 or more core credits are eligible to apply for the program; however, their expenses may slightly exceed the $10,000 threshold. The 10K Degree-Completion Program provides an affordable and flexible path for completing a bachelor’s degree, catering specifically to adult learners, working professionals, and others who have accumulated at least 70 college credits.
The degree completion program’s distinctive elements, including free micro-credential courses, transcript assessment, recognition of prior work experience and online learning, aim to empower students in enhancing career prospects and income potential. This opportunity gives adult students a chance to break down common barriers such as cost, time constraints and past educational challenges. Students should expect to save time and money, balance work-life commitments and receive one-on-one support.
Applications for the program will open May 1.
Another flagship feature of Texas Tech DFW is the cutting-edge iOS training lab. The lab provides a unique opportunity for individuals to immerse themselves in the world of iOS app design and development.
“Through this innovative approach, we’ll cater to a diverse spectrum of learners, including non-traditional students seeking alternative paths to education as well as those following more conventional routes,” said Provost and Senior Vice President Ron Hendrick. “Our engagement, however, extends beyond the walls, reaching out to engage the wider community and forge meaningful partnerships with community and corporate entities.”
A major objective of the location is to provide resources and support services to Texas Tech students residing in the DFW area. These include academic advisers, financial aid counselors, admissions counselors and online student success specialists to assist with questions or challenges students are facing.
Additionally, the facility is intended as a place for alumni to network with each other, the university, and engage with current and future students. Texas Tech DFW will be a hub for connecting with the local community and high school students. The site will become a valuable resource, as its spaces are available to rent for meetings and other community and non-university related events.
Texas Tech DFW is located at 4201 State Highway 161, Suite 250, Irving, Texas 75038.
