The College of Health & Human Sciences’ New Name Aligns with Vision

Formerly the College of Human Sciences, the rebranding aims to enhance human well-being through premier research, outreach and educational programs.

When Texas Technological College opened Sept. 30, 1925, 914 students could attend four schools: Agriculture, Engineering, Home Economics and Liberal Arts.

Just as Texas Technological College transformed into Texas Tech University, the School of Home Economics evolved over the years – focusing on aspects of human

health like nutrition, hygiene, home management, child-rearing and family relationships. Accordingly, in 1993 it became known as the College of Human Sciences.

More than three decades later, the college has undergone another name change to the College of Health & Human Sciences. This transition better reflects its mission: to provide multidisciplinary education, research and service focused on individuals, families and their environments to improve and enhance the human condition.

To accomplish this, the college has eight outstanding and nationally recognized departments and programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels that provide essential opportunities to improve the health of individuals, families and communities. In addition to pre-health pathways, the college covers areas of wellness such as addiction recovery, couples and relationship therapy, nutrition and metabolic health, child and adolescent development, financial management, and counseling to support children and families dealing with trauma.
