The event will be part of the launch of Texas Tech’s comprehensive fundraising campaign.
Country music chart-topper Niko Moon and Grammy Award nominee Midland will headline a special concert during Homecoming weekend that also will signal the launch of a comprehensive fundraising campaign at Texas Tech University.
The concert is free and open to the public and will be held immediately after the homecoming pep rally and bonfire on Oct. 18. It will take place on the student recreation fields directly east of United Supermarkets Arena, adjacent to Urbanovsky Park.
Niko Moon will open the concert. His first single, “Good Time,” topped the U.S. country charts in 2020 while the album of the same name reached as high as No. 12 on the U.S. country charts.
A native of Tyler, Texas, Moon established a successful career writing songs for the likes of Morgan Wallen, Avicii, Dierks Bentley, Pitbull, the Zac Brown Band and Rascal Flatts. He has written eight No. 1 songs and more than 40 major record label cuts for various artists.
Midland, which formed in 2014 in Dripping Springs, Texas, has been nominated for two Grammy awards for Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance in 2018 for their hit single “Drinkin’ Problem.” They won the Academy of Country Music award for New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year in 2018. Their album “On the Rocks reached No. 2 on the U.S. Country charts, and Their follow-up album in 2019, “Let it Roll,” reached No. 1. Their new album, “Barely Blue,” is set for release on Sept. 20.
For the concert, Texas Tech’s clear bag policy will be in effect. There will not be any concessions near the stage area, but food trucks with a variety of options will be positioned just off 18th Street adjacent to the festivities.
Free public parking will be available in commuter lots west of United Supermarkets Arena as well as in R-18, R-25, R-5 and R-1.
