Texas Tech Earns Sixth Great Colleges to Work For® Designation

Texas Tech also has been recognized for the third straight year as an Honor Roll member for its high job satisfaction, professional development and more.

For the fourth straight year and sixth time since 2014, Texas Tech University has been recognized as one of the best destinations in the country for employees with its ranking in the 2024 Great Colleges to Work For® program, one of the largest and most respected initiatives in the country that measures workplace factors in higher education.

Additionally, Texas Tech was awarded Honor Roll status for the third consecutive year for being cited most often across all recognition categories.

The ranking is based on results of the Great Colleges to Work For® survey of faculty and staff at 216 institutions across the U.S., including 139 four-year colleges and universities. Texas Tech is one of 75 institutions to earn the designation and one of 42 to earn Honor Roll status.

“This recognition reflects the dedication and collaborative spirit of our faculty and staff,” said Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec. “It's their great sense of service and unwavering support for the students and each other that makes Texas Tech a great place to work and learn.”

The university also was recognized in 2014, 2015, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Two other universities within the Texas Tech University SystemAngelo State University and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) – also were honored. Texas Tech and Baylor were the only two schools from the Big 12 Conference recognized on the 2024 list.

Texas Tech earned recognition in nine categories this year:

  • Confidence in senior leadership
  • Faculty and staff well-being
  • Shared governance
  • Faculty experience

Now in its 17th year, the Great Colleges to Work For® survey is based on a two-part assessment process. The first part is the ModernThink Higher Education Insight Survey© administered to faculty, administrators, exempt professional and non-exempt staff as well as adjuncts at two-year colleges. The second part is the ModernThink Higher Education Institution Questionnaire©, which captures employment data and workplace policies and practices from each institution.
