Military & Veteran Programs and Texas Tech K-12 have earned recognition for their dedication to the military community.
Texas Tech University has again been recognized for its steadfast support of service members and military families. Recently, Texas Tech was ranked in the Top 10 in the Military Times’ Best for Vets list of colleges and universities and ranked “Gold” status in the 2024-2025 Military Friendly® Schools Awards.
Additionally, Texas Tech received a Gold Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award from the Texas Veterans Commission.
"Texas Tech University has a long history of recognizing and supporting members of our military, and we are honored to be ranked among the top 10 universities for veterans," said Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec. "Our commitment to the military community is unwavering, and we take great pride in providing an environment where veterans can succeed."
The Military Times ranking was determined after the independent news outlet surveyed veteran-focused programs at higher education institutions across the country and reviewed data obtained from the U.S. Departments of Education and Veterans Affairs.
Texas Tech’s Military & Veteran Programs (MVP) assists veterans, active service members and their families by connecting them to academic support, funding opportunities and local, state and federal resources.
“It is rewarding to be ranked in the top 10, as it reflects the unwavering support of our leadership, the hard work and dedication of the MVP Staff, and a collaborative campus wide commitment to honor those who have served our country,” said Gracie Guerra, director of MVP. “Our everyday mission is to support our veterans, active-duty service members and their families as they pursue their degree. We are humbled that our military-connected students allow us to play a critical role in their educational journey.”
The Military Friendly® designation is adjudicated by Viqtory. Schools take self-assessing surveys, which become more stringent each year, that are weighted along with public data and compliance with several benchmarks.
In September, the Texas Education Agency designated Texas Tech K-12 a Purple Star Campus, the only public school in the Education Service Center’s Region 17 to receive the commendation. Region 17 includes 57 West Texas school districts, from as far southwest as Denver City and Seminole to the northern areas of Floydada, Paducah and Plainview.
The designation also marks the fulfillment of acting superintendent Cari Moye’s pledge to get Texas Tech K-12’s elementary and middle schools recognized as Purple Star Campuses in addition to Texas Tech High School.
