“Dr. Sha brings a wealth of experience in leadership, fundraising and recruiting faculty to this role at Texas Tech at a time when the College of Media & Communication is poised to take the next step in its development,” said Provost & Senior Vice President Ron Hendrick.

Prior to her tenure at Cal State Fullerton, Sha served as interim associate dean of the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts and as director of the School of Journalism & Media Studies at San Diego State University, where she was also a professor of public relations.

Sha’s applied research, at the intersection of identity and public relations, has examined the pay gap between women and men in the public relations industry, the issue of work-life balance for public relations practitioners, and how organizations can enhance their relationships with people impacted by organizational decisions.

“I’m excited to partner with the outstanding faculty and staff of the College of Media & Communication as the university further strengthens its research prowess and leverages state taxpayers’ investment in the Texas University Fund to deepen its commitment to preparing students to be ethical leaders for a diverse and globally competitive workforce. And, coming home to Texas is a thrilling bonus!” said Sha, who grew up in Alief, in southwest Houston.

Sha earned her bachelor’s degree in French and in communication with a concentration in public relations from Purdue University. She earned her master’s degree in journalism and her doctorate in mass communication from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is accredited by the Public Relations Society of America and was inducted into the Society’s College of Fellows in 2022.
