Every Gift Makes a Difference on Day of Giving

Highlighting how any gift, of any amount, anywhere on campus can make an impact, the 2025 Day of Giving encourages all Red Raiders to rally together to make a difference.

How can my $5, $25, $50 or even $100 gift make an impact?

The answer to this question is evident through the generosity shown by Red Raiders in their participation in Texas Tech University’s Day of Giving. This annual event, which will take place March 25-26, highlights the collective impact donors can have when they support Texas Tech.

Texas Tech Day of Giving is a university-wide fundraising event that occurs over two days for a total of 32 hours and 3 minutes – or 1,923 minutes – signifying the year of Texas Tech’s founding.

During this time, all Red Raiders are encouraged to rally together and give to the programs and priorities that are most meaningful to them. Whether you can give $5 or $5,000, your gift makes a difference.

“Everyone can make a true difference through Day of Giving,” said Byron Kennedy, vice president for advancement. “Great things are happening at our university that have an impact far beyond our campus. This past fall, the university launched On&On: The Campaign for Texas Tech University to maximize that impact. Day of Giving is a great way to get involved with Texas Tech and the campaign by supporting the needs of these great programs.”

Each year, donors can give to funds that support students, scholarships and other initiatives. Each of Texas Tech’s 13 colleges are represented, as are other university areas, including Texas Tech Athletics, campus life organizations and the Military & Veterans Programs.

“The purpose of Day of Giving is to help programs at our university meet the needs of our students and community,” said Shannon Wallace, associate director for annual giving. “Participation in Day of Giving is important because it’s about collective impact. It’s an opportunity to celebrate Texas Tech and inspire others to join together to help Red Raiders succeed.”

New Plans for 2025

The 2025 Texas Tech Day of Giving will be the third time the university has hosted this fundraising event, and it will be slightly different from prior years.

Previously, each college, school or other unit on campus selected one project to highlight and encouraged all donors to support this initiative.

This year, a new giving platform will allow for more funds to be showcased, giving colleges, schools and units the chance to highlight multiple areas of need.

In addition to the new platform, 2025 will be the first year Texas Tech Day of Giving will be held in the spring while students are on campus. Students will be able to participate in Day of Giving events hosted by their colleges and see the effects generosity has at Texas Tech and in the Lubbock community. The Office of Advancement will also host its annual Day of Giving event at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion on March 25 from 3:30-5 p.m.

These events are part of how Wallace and her team ensure everyone feels like they have a chance to be involved.

“Day of Giving is for everyone, and we encourage Red Raiders to give, connect and share,” Wallace continued. “Day of Giving is not just about supporting these programs but also sharing them on your social media with your friends and family. This year, you’ll also see more Day of Giving events around campus hosted by colleges, and we are excited to see that opportunity open for more people to participate.”

Why It Matters

At the end of the day, Day of Giving is about helping others, which is at the core of the West Texas spirit and a point of pride in every Red Raider’s heart. By contributing to programs that uplift those in the Texas Tech and Lubbock communities who need a helping hand to find success, our donors make an immediate and deeply appreciated impact on the lives of others.

The collective power of generosity has tremendously affected Texas Tech programs on previous Days of Giving. During the most recent Day of Giving, 1,425 donors gave over $430,000. This amount was not only $100,000 more than in its inaugural year, but it also serves as a prime example of how contributions of $5, $10, $50 and $100 can add up.

Whether it’s the dollar that allows a student to attend a professional conference, the dollar that guarantees Raider Red’s Food Pantry has a meal for a student in need, or the dollar that provides a student with professional attire for an interview, the combined impact of these gifts can make a significant difference.

So, the next time you wonder, “How does my gift make a difference?” remember that when Red Raiders rally together, they have the power to change lives.

“What Day of Giving has shown me is that Red Raiders are difference-makers,” Wallace said. “Each year, we have surpassed the fundraising goal we set, but what resonates with me is what happens three months, six months or even a year after the event when I see the results and know that those donations are changing lives.”
