Texas Tech $10K Degree Completion Program Launching in El Paso

Qualified students can finish a bachelor’s degree for as little as $10,000 with the hybrid program now taking applications.

Texas Tech University is expanding its $10K Degree Completion Program to El Paso after a successful launch at Texas Tech DFW last year. Classes begin March 29 for the hybrid program which will utilize space at TTUHSC El Paso.

This marks the first time the program will be available to students in the El Paso area, providing local residents access to an affordable and efficient degree completion pathway.

“The launch of the $10K Degree Completion Program in El Paso is another example of our commitment to expanding access to higher education,” said Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec. “By growing the Texas Tech family through this program, we are empowering future Red Raiders to reach their goals and take the next steps in their careers.”

Almost 200 students have already signed up for the initial offering after it first opened in DFW last June. Some, in fact, have already finished their coursework and graduated with a degree from Texas Tech.

With an affordable cost of $10,000 or less, the flexible learning opportunity is tailored to meet the needs of working adults and non-traditional students. They will also have personalized support services to guide them through enrollment, financial aid and academic advising.

Students can begin their educational journey with no financial commitment through free microcredential courses offered as a blend of online learning and in-person supplemental instruction at the TTUHSC El Paso site. Participants can also leverage their past work and life experiences to earn up to nine free credit hours. When prior learning experience (PLE) is combined with free microcredentials, students can potentially earn up to 21 hours of credit toward degree completion at no cost. Once enrolled in online degree coursework, a simple flat program fee allows PLE to convert for credit toward the $10K Degree Completion Program. This combination helps students save time and money.

"A college degree not only boosts earning potential but also fosters a deep sense of personal accomplishment,” said Brian Still, vice provost for Texas Tech Online. “For students navigating challenging circumstances, this program provides an affordable and accessible route back to education, utilizing microcredentialing and valuing prior experiences to earn academic credit."

Upon completion of the microcredentials, learners will be admitted to either the Bachelor of Arts in University Studies or Bachelor of Science in Leadership Studies programs and finish the remainder of their courses online.

For those who have completed at least 80 credit hours, the bachelor’s degree is attainable for as little as $10,000. For individuals with fewer than 80 hours, the program will work to make the degree as affordable as possible, but their cost might be slightly higher than $10K. This still presents significant cost savings compared to traditional degree completion pathways, enhancing affordability for students. Individual pricing will vary based on each student’s transfer credits and prior learning experiences. An advisor will assist students in estimating total cost.
