The third annual Texas Tech Day of Giving saw more first-time donors and more total dollars raised than ever before.
Summary:
The 2025 Texas Tech Day of Giving raised over $575,000 from nearly 1,500 donors, making it the most successful event to date, surpassing the previous year's record by $145,000. The contributions, including donations from first-time and sustained donors, supported over 157 funds across various university programs and are part of the ongoing ON&ON campaign to enhance Texas Tech’s mission of academic excellence and community service.
Why This Matters:
- Growing Support: The event saw a significant increase in donations, highlighting growing support for Texas Tech University and its programs.
- Community Involvement: It showcases the power of community involvement, with both first-time and recurring donors contributing to the university's future.
- Critical Funding: The funds raised support for critical initiatives like student resources, military
programs and academic excellence, ensuring long-term benefits for students and faculty.
Thanks to the generosity of nearly 1,500 donors from 36 states, more than $575,000 was raised during the 2025 Texas Tech Day of Giving. The third-annual event at Texas Tech University was the most successful to date, surpassing the previous record set in 2023 by $145,000.
“This was another successful Day of Giving. From many who made their first gift to many sustained donors, Day of Giving shows the incredible impact Red Raiders have when we rally together,” said Byron Kennedy, vice president for Texas Tech Advancement. “Each contribution, regardless of its size, creates a lasting effect on our university's future. Our community stepped up to support Texas Tech, and together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who shape this university.”
During 1,923 minutes on March 25 and 26, every dollar raised across the university counted toward Day of Giving. This included programs and initiatives in colleges, schools and other areas across campus, such as the TECHniques Center of Texas Tech University, the Goin’ Band from Raiderland, Raider Relief and the Military & Veterans Programs.
While a new giving platform allowed for more than 100 funds to be featured on Day of Giving, donations extended beyond those, with 157 funds supported during the event. This generosity came from various supporters, including alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students and friends of the university. Of these supporters, 267 were first-time donors, the largest number to date.
All gifts to Day of Giving are also part of ON&ON: The Campaign for Texas Tech University, which was publicly launched in October 2024, supporting the campaign priorities: Transform Lives, Fuel Academic Excellence, Elevate Campus & Community and Build Champions.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in this year’s Day of Giving,” said Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec. Your support exemplifies the spirit of the ON&ON campaign. These gifts will advance Texas Tech’s shared mission of excellence and our ability to serve current and future generations of students, faculty and the greater community.”
Since the launch of Texas Tech Day of Giving in August 2022, donors have given more than $1.35 million. Of the gifts made this year, 78.5% were $100 or less and four matching challenges were met.
This year also saw three donors contribute significant gifts. Jan Parker, Ph.D., an instructor in the Department of Design, and Scott Pettit, a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council, along with his wife, Michelle, made two substantial donations to the College of Health & Human Sciences. Additionally, the William A. Brookshire Foundation renewed its support for working students in the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering and the Veterans Clinic at the School of Law and established a new scholarship for veterans in law school.
The total amount raised for the 2025 Texas Tech Day of Giving is expected to increase as mailed contributions continue to arrive and are counted.
