Instructions
Manage Notifications Winter weather may impact campus operations. Please review Texas Tech University's guidance related to campus closures and delays.
Weather Delays & Closures
Early in the season, managers should proactively communicate with their employees about their status should the university only require essential personnel to report to work.
While it is impossible to address every scenario, essential personnel typically deliver services critical to health or safety, essential services to students, or are involved in the university's plant operations.
If an employee is unsure of the essential nature of their job, they should contact their supervisor for clarification.
In the event of extreme winter weather, the university may close. If a weather closure is required, the university will communicate with employees via official communication channels, including, but not limited to, the TechAlert! Emergency Communication System and local media.
The coordination of a campus closure is quite extensive. Texas Tech will communicate with employees as soon as possible. Employees scheduled to work during the closure will receive instructions for appropriately recording their time upon their return to work.
All classes, including those that meet online, will be canceled when campus is closed.
In the event of extreme winter weather, the university may delay opening. If a weather delay is required, the university will communicate with employees via official communication channels, including, but not limited to, the TechAlert! Emergency Communication System and local media.
- Staff employees (both exempt and non-exempt) not designated as essential staff should report to work when the university opens. They should contact their supervisor if they cannot report to work because it is unsafe. Employees scheduled to work during the delay will work with their supervisor to ensure time is reported correctly per the time reporting instructions sent out following the delay.
- Faculty employees should use their professional judgment to determine a report time that allows them to prepare for the start of class.
Class Guidelines for Delays
If inclement weather forces a delayed opening, in-person and online classes scheduled to begin before campus opens will be canceled. All classes will resume when campus opens.
More Information
All employees should exercise common sense and good judgment. Employees should only report to work if it is safe to do so. Employees who find it unsafe to report to work should immediately communicate with their supervisor.
If employees have questions during a weather delay or closure, they should contact their supervisor directly, as university offices may be closed or have limited access to telecommunication services. In the event of an emergency, employees should call 911.
Please contact Human Resources at (806) 742-3851 with any questions relating to this or any other matter.
